- Vehicle Emissions Test Notices Suspended Amid Budget Impasse
SPRINGFIELD, Ill (AP) -. Illinois motorists should keep track of when their vehicles must pass emissions test or renewed, because the state said it will not provide notifications are sent.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Secretary of State's office announced a temporary policy changes Tuesday.
EPA said in a news release that was forced to delay the delivery of notifications vehicle emissions testing, starting with number plates ending in late March, because of a lack of state budget.
Consequently, the Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White has decided to allow temporary extension of the plate for vehicle owners who have not taken the emissions test, citing an unfair burden to the citizens. Those owners will be told they still have to get their vehicles tested.
White office said in September that it would stop mailing vehicle registration renewal reminders for budget deadlock. The move is expected to save $ 450,000 per month, and is intended to allow White's office to continue to send another reminder as to a driving license renewal for several months until the account is exhausted postage, he said in a statement.
White office also said it would resume regular vehicle registration procedure when EPA resume outgoing mail notifications vehicle emissions testing. Those who need to renew vehicle registration must do so in person because of the number of pins required to do so online by post.
